For the first
time, a chess player from Bangladesh has participated in the ongoing World
Rapid Chess Championship in New York. He is the national champion of Bangladesh
Manan Reza. This young man has defeated the two grandmasters of Austria and
Germany in this fight with all the chessmen of the world.
The length of a match in rapid chess is 15 minutes. Manan has got 3 and a half points by playing 9 matches in the tournament so far. In the first, second and third rounds, he lost to Grandmaster Nesterov Ersenyi of Russia, International Master Lou Yiping of China and Grandmaster Andersen Mads of Denmark.
Manon turned around from the fourth round. Zimbabwean international master Yurazayev drew with Makoto Rodwell. On Thursday, December 26, he lost to Austrian Grandmaster Horvath Dominic in the fifth round.
Then on Friday,
December 27, he defeated German Grandmaster Dennis Wagner in the ninth round.
The World Rapid Chess Championship ends on Saturday, December 28. International
master Manon of Bangladesh is ranked 151 out of 180 chess players participating
for the first time.
